Tim Brabantz
Tim Brabants won Britain's first gold medal in kayaking in the 1000 meter sprint at the Beijing Olympics, after winning two bronze medals. When he does not participate in training or world competitions, he is an expert emergency doctor at the Queen of Nottingham Medical Center. Tim's first experience kayaking was attending a one week course during the school vacation, which his mother hoped would guide his overly restless energy. Although there were no rapids in the Thames River area, he quickly became enamored with the adrenaline rush of kayaking in still water and won third place in the World Youth Championships. Tim's speech focuses on having determination and finding inner strength to set a goal and achieve it, no matter what obstacles you encounter. He also discussed the struggles and pain after winning the Olympic championship, the need to find a reasonable balance between the two jobs, and his recent obsession with triathlon.
