Richard Robert Ernst(14 August 1933 – 4 June 2021) was a Swissphysical chemistandNobellaureate. Ernst was awarded theNobel Prize in Chemistryin 1991 for his contributions towards the development ofFourier transformnuclear magnetic resonance(NMR)spectroscopywhile atVarian AssociatesandETH Zurich.These underpin applications to both to chemistry withNMR spectroscopyand to medicine withmagnetic resonance imaging(MRI).
