David Beckham is the most well-known football player and idol superstar of his time. He has played for outstanding teams including Manchester United, Real Madrid, AC Milan, Los Angeles Galaxy, and the English national team, and has made great contributions to the team's multiple victories. He has won 1 Champions League, 1 Toyota Cup, 6 Premier League championships, 2 FA Cups, 4 Charity Shield, 1 La Liga championship, 1 Spanish Super Cup, 2 Major League Finals, and 1 Ligue 1 championship. Beckham has represented the English national team 115 times and scored 17 goals, of which 58 times he served as the captain of the Three Lions. In 1992, at the age of 17, Beckham signed a contract with Manchester United and began his career as a professional football player. In 1999 and 2001, Beckham won the World Footballer of the Year Silver Award twice, and in 1999, he was elected as the best player of UEFA. In 2010, Beckham was awarded the BBC Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his significant contribution to the football industry. In 2003, Queen Elizabeth II of England awarded Beckham the OBE Medal of the British Empire. In 2013, Beckham withdrew from professional football. Beckham is keen on philanthropy. When he was at Manchester United, he began to support UNICEF. In 2005, he became a goodwill ambassador of UNICEF, and especially focused on the Foundation's sports for development program and the campaign against AIDS. He is also a member of the Leadership Committee of the Malaria Prevention and Control Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to eradicating malaria in Africa. He also helped disabled soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan by helping hero charities. Beckham also co founded the Victoria and David Beckham Charity Trust with his wife Victoria to provide assistance to impoverished children.
