Daniel Gilbert is an Edgar Pierce professor of psychology at Harvard University. His teaching and research work has won him numerous awards, including the Outstanding Science Award from the American Psychological Association, in recognition of his contributions to psychology in his early career. In 2008, he was elected as a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. His work has been selected on the New York Times bestseller list for six consecutive months and has been translated into over 30 languages, winning the Royal Society's Best Popular Science Book of the Year award. In 2010, Gilbert hosted and co created a TV series called \Emotional Life\, which was broadcasted on Nova TV in Bulgaria. Once broadcasted, the series received over 10 million viewers. In 2013, he teamed up with Prudential to launch a series of television advertisements encouraging Americans to plan for the future and save money for retirement. This is the most successful advertising campaign in the history of the financial services industry. Gilbert is a writer for Time Magazine, The New York Times, and NPRall Things Considered. He has served as a guest on multiple television programs, including Today Show, Charlie Ross Interview, 20\/20, and Gilbert Report. In 2014, Science Magazine rated him as one of the 50 most highly regarded social media scientists worldwide. Gilbert's previous TED speeches have had over 15 million views, and his first TED speech is still one of the 15 most popular speeches to this day.
