In July 2007, Azlan was appointed as the CEO of Asia Airlines X, the world's first truly low-cost long-distance airline. He led the entrepreneurial team to develop a business plan, raise funds, guarantee relevant licenses, approve and acquire aircraft, and achieved the first flight of Asia Airlines X on the Australian Gold Coast in November 2007. Despite the global aviation market turmoil in 2008 and 2009, Asia Airlines X expanded from one aircraft to 11, achieving triple growth in revenue and passenger volume. In 2009, the passenger volume exceeded 1 million passengers, and in 2010, the revenue exceeded one billion ringgit. AirAsia X currently flies to 15 destinations in Australia, New Zealand, Greater China, India, Iran, Japan, South Korea, and Europe. The long-distance flight operation of Air Asia X is the world's lowest unit cost and highest aircraft utilization rate. Its London route is the longest low-cost flight service. Despite initial skepticism from many industry observers, AirAsia X achieved positive operations with less than half a year of cash flow, with sales exceeding RM400 million in its first year and a net profit starting at the end of 2008. Through joint ownership, long-term brand licensing agreements, and shared services and resources, AirAsia X leverages the global brand strength of AirAsia to share business and economies of scale through its unparalleled short distance branch network in Southeast Asia. The foundation of its groundbreaking business model has led to significant international promotion for Asia Airlines X, which won the Best New Airlines award in 2008. Azlan previously served at McKinsey&Company, responsible for co leading Southeast Asian corporate financing and strategic practices. Hold a Master's degree in Management Science from Stanford University. Azlan was invited to give speeches around the world. He was one of the young leaders of the 2010 World Islamic Economic Forum and represented Malaysia as one of the 21 representatives of the Asia Association in 2009. He is also a member of the Youth CEO Organization YPO.
