Sir John Amit was appointed as the President of the Olympic Delivery Authority in January 2007. He led his team to be responsible for the construction of venues and infrastructure for the 2012 London Olympics, including the Olympic Park, as well as planning and funding for transportation, as well as regulating the advertising industry and street trading activities during the Olympics. Many people believe that John is a true Olympic hero because the ODA Olympic Delivery Authority delivered the Olympic venues on time and assigned a budget to the London Organizing Committee nine months before the start of the Olympics. Sir John Amit once served as the chairman of National Express, a leading company in the UK transportation services industry, primarily in the UK, North America, and Spain. From 1986 to 1993, he served as the Chairman of Ryan International Civil Engineering Company, which he joined after graduating in 1966. From 1993 to 1997, he served as the CEO of United Railways, responsible for the development of the high-speed strait tunnel railway project. Since 1997, he served as the CEO of Costain and served until 2001. He has served as the Chairman of the Engineering and Physical Science Research Committee and is a member of the Royal Society of Engineering and Civil Engineers. John was awarded the CBE Order of the Commander of the British Empire in 1996 for his contributions to the railway industry, and was named on the New Year's Honors List in 2012 for his achievements in engineering and architecture.
