Jan Eliasson is a famous and respected diplomat in Sweden. From 2005 to 2006, Jan Eliasson was appointed as the President of the United Nations General Assembly of the European Union, and in 2006, he was appointed as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sweden. From 2007 to 2008, he was appointed as the EU Secretary General's Special Envoy. Recently, he was appointed as the EU Development Strategy Ambassador. From 1980 to 1986, Jan Eliasson participated in the dispatch mission of the Iran and Iraq War led by former Prime Minister Olof Palme. From 1988 to 1992, Jan Eliasson served as the Swedish Ambassador in the European Union in New York. During his tenure, he was also appointed as the Secretary General's Representative for the Iran Iraq conflict. He was the Deputy Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs of the first European Union and participated in humanitarian operations in countries in Africa and the Balkans. Jan Eliasson has always been committed to conflict prevention and humanitarian action. From 1993 to 1994, he served as the mediator of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, responsible for security and cooperation matters. From 1994 to 2000, Jan Eliasson served as the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, responsible for formulating and implementing Sweden's foreign policy. Yang Eliasson graduated from American University and Uppsala University with two honorary doctoral degrees. He is also a visiting professor in the Department of Peace and Conflict at Uppsala University. Yang Eliasson is the chairman of Anna Lindh Memorial Fund of Sweden and a member of the ICRC advisory panel. He is a speaker and advocate for foreign affairs, humanitarian action, and conflict issues.
