James Rubin is an internationally renowned foreign affairs journalist, academic expert, and top authority in US diplomacy, national security, and foreign policy. In September 2014, he became a columnist for The Sunday Times. From 1997 to 2000, Rubin served as Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs in the Clinton administration and Chief Spokesperson for Secretary of State Madeleine Korbel Albright. During the Kosovo crisis, he served as the Special Coordinator for the Kosovo Liberation Army's demobilization mission. He has been a visiting scholar at the Rothermere American Institute at Oxford University from 2013 to 2014, a director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey from 2011 to 2013, an advisor to New York Governor General Andrew Como from 2011 to 2013, an associate professor at the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University from 2009 to 2011, and a co executive editor at Bloomberg News in 2011. From 2000 to 2008, Rubin worked as a broadcaster, professor, and financial communication strategist in London. From 2005 to 2007, he served as a host and global affairs commentator for Sky News Channel; From 2001 to 2004, he served as a visiting professor of international relations at the London School of Economics; From 2001 to 2004, he was a partner of the Brunswick Group, a financial advisory firm; In 2002 and 2003, he was the co host of the PBS International Current Affairs series Wide Angle. During the 2008 presidential campaign, he represented Hillary Clinton in the international affairs television debate. In 2004, he served as the Senior Advisor for National Security at Kerry\/Edwards Campaign; In 1996, he served as the Director of Foreign Policy for President Clinton\/Vice President Gore. Previously, he served as a senior advisor and spokesperson for Madeline Kobel Albright, the US Representative to the United Nations, from 1993 to 1996, an expert member of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and a senior foreign policy advisor to Senator Joseph Biden from 1989 to 1993. At the beginning of his career from 1985 to 1989, he was a senior analyst and research director at the Independent Arms Control Association. In 1998, Rubin received the John Jay Award for Outstanding Professional Achievement from Columbia University. In 2000, he was awarded the State Council's highest honor - Outstanding Service Award. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Columbia University in 1982 and a Master's degree in International Affairs in 1984. He often writes articles for the New York Times, Financial Times, Washington Post, New Republic, Newsweek, and foreign affairs, and appears frequently on channels such as CNN, BBC, Sky TV, and MSNBC. Currently, Rubin serves on the board of directors of the International Peace Research Institute.
